The Housing Authority of the City
of Jefferson provides affordable, safe and sanitary homes for families of all
sizes and for the elderly and handicapped. The Authority also administers the
Section 8 Housing Choice voucher program for the Jefferson City area.
We are accepting applications for all properties. Applications for housing may
be picked up between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday at
the Housing Department in the lower level of the Housing Authority's
Administration Office at 1040 Myrtle Avenue.
Completed applications MUST be mailed or submitted in person at the Housing
Office. FAXED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, ACKNOWLEDGED OR PROCESSED. Applications are processed and added to the waiting lists in the order in which
they are received. The waiting period for an apartment may range from two to
three weeks to several months depending on the size of the applicant's family,
the number of bedrooms required and accessibility needs.
When a unit becomes available we will send the applicant a packet containing
additional information about the housing program and instructions for making an
appointment for a leasing interview. Because we contact prospective tenants only
by mail, it is vital that applicants keep the Housing Authority informed of
their current address. Any correspondence returned to us as undeliverable by the
Post Office will cause the applicant's name to be removed from the waiting list.
Our Mission Statement
To promote adequate and
affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment
without discrimination for low-income, very low-income families, persons with
disabilities or the elderly.
The JCHA will be a vehicle of
social mobility by giving qualified applicants the opportunity to reside in a
subsidized public housing for a period of time, so that they may secure the
necessary schooling or training they may need, which may consist of, but not
limited to, obtaining a high school diploma or GED, college degree vocational
training and/or marketable skills to obtain gainful employment.
