Ted J. Herron ApartmentsThe Ted J. Herron Apartments for the Elderly located at 1303 Edmonds Street was named for the long-time Housing Authority Director. This building has 50 one-bedroom apartments for use by persons 55 years old or older. Several units are wheelchair accessible. All of the units feature fully equipped kitchens with a microwave oven, dishwasher, electric stove and refrigerator. In addition the apartments are wired for cable television and have telephone jacks conveniently located. The bedroom and living rooms each have ceiling fans. There is an emergency pull cord in the bedroom for the residents to use in case of illness or accidents. Laundry facilities and community activity rooms for the residents use are available on each floor of the building. The tenants are encouraged use the conveniently located computer room with free internet access. The Herron Apartments are on the city bus route and accessible to the Handi-Wheels shuttle service. To ensure the tenants safety, the entrance to the building is kept locked. Visitors must check in with tenants via an intercom system before being admitted to the building. The Herron Apartments are located within walking distance of the Robert L. Hyder Apartments which has a beauty salon and the Clarke Senior Center where noon meals are available each weekday. The Clarke Senior Center is also used for many scheduled programs and activities just for seniors. Applications for the Herron Apartments may be printed from the Housing Applications page.
