The Robert L. Hyder Apartments The Robert L. Hyder Apartments are named in honor of the 1975 to 1978 mayor of Jefferson City. The Hyder Apartments at 1310 Linden Drive has 116 one-bedroom apartments exclusively for seniors aged 62 or older. Wheelchair accessible units are available. The kitchens in all units have electric stoves, refrigerators, garbage disposers and built-in microwave ovens. Each unit has an emergency pull cord that the resident can use in case of illness or injury. The apartments are also cable ready and have several telephone jacks for the tenant to choose from. Rent at the Hyder apartments is based on 30% of the tenant's income with a minimum rent of $25.00 per month. The community room and computer room were redecorated in the Autumn of 2006. They provides comfortable areas for the tenants to watch television, have carry-in meals, work on projects or chat with friends in person or on line. The building also has conveniently located laundry areas. Hyder also houses a beauty salon and the Clarke Senior Center where lunch is served each weekday. The Clarke Senior Center is also used for many scheduled programs and activities just for seniors. To ensure the tenant's safety, the entrance to the building is kept locked. Visitors can come in only with tenant authorization. Call the Hyder Beauty Shop at 573-635-8223 to make an appointment or ask about services. The Hyder Apartments is on the city bus routes and accessible to the Handi-Wheels shuttle service. Bingo is held every Wednesday in the Clarke Nutrition Center.
