We Need you!

" Life's most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?"
- Martin Luther King Jr.

Have you ever thought of Volunteering at your local Housing Authority?

We are looking for volunteers to assist us in providing activities for our senior citizens. The Housing Authority provides a home to more then 150 active individuals over the age of 62. Many of them do not drive or have the opportunity to get out to enjoy Jefferson City.

We are seeking individuals or groups to come to one of our senior facilities (Herron Apartments, Hyder Apartments or Ken Locke Apartments) and provide entertainment- music, drama, a lecture, demonstrating a skill, organizing a theme party, showing a movie, leading a discussion group, or any other idea you might have to share some smiles with the residents. This can be an ongoing event or just one time. We want some fresh faces to come and interact with the residents.

If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to discuss the possibility, please contact Dorothy Colter, Activities Director at 573.634.1088 or Michelle Wessler, Executive Director, 573.635.6163 ext 216.

Some Ideas:

  • Prepare a meal or barbeque or snacks for the residents
  • Are you in a group that can Sing, dance, play an instrument, perform a magic show
  • Can you host a game, movie or crafting activity in the community room
  • Renovate/Upgrade the furniture or décor in the common area in one of the Senior Facilities
