Missouri Chapter NAHRO Scholarship Program
RESIDENT APPLICATION
The Missouri Chapter of NAHRO will provide a minimum of $4,000 in scholarships to high school seniors, GED or high
school graduates who fulfill the following requirements:
One $2000 scholarship* will be given to a member of a family that is receiving housing assistance through either
Section 8 or Public Housing. The sponsoring agency must be a member of MONAHRO.
*Upon successful completion of the first year with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average, the scholarship is
renewable for one additional year in the amount of $1000.
The scholarships are competitive, and awards will be based upon performance and accomplishments. Applications must be
received by noon March 10, 2023, by the Scholarship Committee at the following address:

APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION
1) Completion of application on the included pages with this form.
2) All available and most recent high school transcripts and college transcripts, if applicable. Include a current picture.
3) ACT test scores REQUIRED
4) 3.0 GPA or greater
5) Letters of recommendation from two teachers.
6) An essay (300 words or less), may be typed or in the applicant’s handwriting, on “Why I wish to pursue a college
degree or vocational training.”

The Southwest Regional Council NAHRO Scholarship Program provides scholarship opportunities to families that reside in, work with, or who otherwise receive housing benefits from one of the member agencies of the Council. The SWRC NAHRO annually awards scholarships totaling more than $10,000.00. Scholarship awards are available to public housing residents, participants in rental assistance or similar programs, both heads of household and other family members, and children of staff working for a member agency.
Category 1 - High School Senior
Category 2 - Child of Staff
Category 3 - Head of Household
Category 4 - Graduating Senior – Nontraditional - Resident or Participant
Category 1 - Graduating Senior
*New* Each recipient who is awarded a scholarship will be required to submit a one minute or less video of themselves explaining what receiving the scholarship means to them and their future. Videos will be used during our Annual Conference and possibly on website.
Category 1- Graduating Senior – Resident or Participant: Scholarships are available in three areas to graduating seniors who are residents and receive direct housing benefits from one of the member agencies of the Council. The first scholarship is a $4,000 four-year scholarship awarded to a graduating senior, with $1,000 payable each year over a four-year period.
A second, $1,000 one-time scholarship honoring Philip W. Miller is available to graduating seniors who are residents of a public housing agency.
The third area includes scholarship awards of a minimum of $500.00 to resident graduating seniors who successfully apply to the program, who attained a four-year 3.0 GPA and an 18 on the ACT, 1290 on the Old SAT or 860 on the New SAT.
The scholarships have been established by the membership of Southwest NAHRO to provide the opportunity for students associated with public assisted housing to take advantage of post high school educational opportunities that otherwise may not be possible. Any unused portion of a scholarship may, at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, be awarded a student exhibiting outstanding accomplishment.
Category 3 - Head of Household
*New* Each recipient who is awarded a scholarship will be required to submit a one minute or less video of themselves explaining what receiving the scholarship means to them and their future. Videos will be used during our Annual Conference and possibly on website.
Category 3- Resident/Participant Head of Household: Scholarships are available for Heads of Households who are residents of a housing agency or program participant and who plan to begin or are presently attending college. etc
Category 4 - Graduating Senior / Nontraditional
*New* Each recipient who is awarded a scholarship will be required to submit a one minute or less video of themselves explaining what receiving the scholarship means to them and their future. Videos will be used during our Annual Conference and possibly on website.
Category 4 – Graduating Senior – Nontraditional - Resident or Participant: The SWRC NAHRO Annual Scholarship Program provides scholarship opportunities to resident high school seniors residing in or who otherwise receive direct housing benefits from one of the member agencies of the Council. This scholarship is for NONTRADITIONAL students or students in a nontraditional program. This award is a minimum of $500 and is to resident/participant graduating seniors who successfully apply to the program. Two (2), one-year scholarships are awarded. The scholarships have been established by the membership of Southwest NAHRO to provide the opportunity for students associated with public assisted housing to take advantage of post high school educational opportunities that otherwise may not be possible. The program is competitive, and awards based on academic achievement, extra curricula activities, and community involvement.
